RAI VALLEY BRANCH The usual monthly meeting of the local branch was held at Rai Valley recently, Mrs Schroder presiding over a good attendance of members, and also a number of visitors, amongst whom was Miss Florence Smith, an Anglican missionary from India, who is spending part of her furlough in Marlborough. It was reported that baskctwarc to the value of £1 15s was sold at the stall on the showground. The question of centralisation of schools was held over until the April meeting, as replies had not been received from all the committees concerned. It was decided to advise the secretary of the Deep Creek Queen Carnival Committee, that this branch could not undertake to organise any function in support of their queen, but would support any effort that was made. it was agreed to hold the annual meeting in May, instead of April, that month being more suitable to members. One new member was proposed by Mrs Williams. Mrs Schroder then itrodueed Miss Smitli, who gave a description of her work amongst the women and children of India, and explained a number of curios she had collected in connection with her work. She also showed some beautiful needlework, clone by the native women, which was much admired by those present. A hearty vote
.of thanks was accorded Miss Smith for her interesting address, and afternoon tea, provided by the Rai Valley members, brought the meeting to a close.
