WIRELESS SETS
DIRECTION-FINDER INCORPORATED IMPERIAL AIRWAYS' FLYINGBOATS (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 27th March, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, 26th March. The Associated Press representative visited tiie Marconi workshops at Hackbridge, near Croydon, and inspected the first of twenty-eight wireless sets being constructed for Imperial Airways’ Empire fiying-boats. The direction-finder which is incorporated in the receiver is one of the most important developments. It enables the pilot to ascertain his position relative to a ground station, and transmitting independently of directionfinding stations. The wave length will permit long, medium and short distance communication. The short wave is sufficient to bridge the Atlantic under favourable conditions. The set incorporates trailing fore and aft and direction finding loop aerials designed to eliminate wind resistance.
