Edgar Allan Poe, immortalised in American literature, received but £2 for “The’ Raven” bis most famous poem. Kustic English countrysides and romantic London serve as dramatic and romantic backgrounds in this ingenious Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr entertainment. ¥ ¥ * * “Peter Ibbetson” Du Manner's famous romance, “Peter Ibbetson,” had its Sydney premiere last Saturday. Gary Cooper takes the title role. Ann Harding is the Duchess of Towers in a film given polished production and directed by Henry Hathaway. This young director, who won recognition with “Lives of a Bengal Lancer,” has won applause from overseas critics for his treatment of the du Mauricr fantasy. ¥ ¥ ¥ * Henry B. Walthall is to star in “In His Footsteps,” for which Karl Brown is writing the screen play. ¥ ¥• ¥ HHoward Lindsay, Broadway playwright and director, is at work on the screen play of “I Won’t Dance,” the next Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers’ film. ¥ ¥ * * Errol Flynn is a young Irish player who was given his big chance in Hollywood in “Captain Blood” after months of despairing waiting about. According to reports he took the chance in grand style and will be heard of in the future. He is partnered by another recent Hollywood discovery, Olivia do llavilland, who has an important part in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Claire Trevor and Paul Kelly have the leading roles in “Song and Dance Man.”
