PREPARATION OF HORSES

FOR TRENTHAM MEETING WORK AT RICCARTON (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, 11th March The tracks at Riccarton are drying quickly and though still heavy should be in good order again in a few days. Most of the horses who are to race at Trentham were out this morning, and though tbei'e was nothing in the way of serious trials there was a lot of useful work on the No. 6 grass track. A few of the horses for the north were allowed to stride along at a sound pace for five or six furlongs, and others were given three-furlong sprints. All of the Riccarton team look in good order for the northern trip. J. S. Shaw will not take Dark Rose to Trenham, where Dollar Bill will now be his only representative. Argentic is engaged on the second and third days of the meeting, hut no definite decision has been made yet about the trip. A change or riders may be made for the Railway Handicap at Trentham. _ A. E. Ellis may have the mount on Silver Streak, in which case L. J. Ellis will be on Invoice. G. 11. Humphries will ride Spiral, Rust and Entail, also Wild Chase in the Challenge Stakes, and M. Kinvan will pilot Ripple. While the work on the fiat did not provide a great deal of excitement at Riccarton this morning, there was plenty of interest in the jumping department, ten horses being schooled. Haeretonu and Monastic went well over the pony hurdles, which Note Issue glso jumped smartly, alone. Hounslow and Streamline went in good style over five hurdles. Wrexford -Bridge, the -Shambles gelding in T. H. G'illett’s stable, went over four hurdles very attractively for a novice. Sisterene jumped four fences well at a slow pace. Royal Limond, accompanied by Nocturnus, went once round the steeplechase fences. He was having his first jump since he resumed work and went well. Bun Tuck, after jumping two brush hurdles, went over three steeplechase fences attractively.
