The definite statement that the Government had not considered increasing unemployment taxation was made by the Minister" of Employment (the Hon. 11. T. Armstrong) in an interview on Saturday. Recently rumours have been current that the taxation was to he increased on a graduated scale, and it has been suggested that incomes of between £4OO and £SOO would be subject to a tax of Is 6d in the £, with further corresponding increase for larger incomes. However, Mr Armstrong made it quite plain that the question had not been considered.
