ANNIVERSARY HOLIDAY
VARIETY OF SPORTS FIXTURES The day dawned dull for Nelson’s 94th anniversary hut as the -in rose higher the sky cleared somewhat and the weather promised to be fine and warm for the holiday. Nelsonians are mostly spending the day in family outings, preferring to follow their individual inclinations, but there were several organised picnics and sports fixtures. Most of the bowling clubs held allday tournaments and a large number of people went by train into the country, where several Sunday school picnics ’ were held at Snowden’s Bush and Spring Grove. The river and beach also attracted many. The main fixture this afternoon was the regatta on the Nelson harbour, hi which visiting rowing crews from Picton, Blenheim and Wairau competed, as well as Nelson oarsmen. Sailing, launch' and swimming races were also held.
The opportunity was taken to arrange several district cricket matches. and teams from Nelson are playing Motuekaat Motueka, and Waimea at Wakefield. The Waimea and Motueka juniors are playing for the Rowling Cup at Mo- - tueka.
At Takaka the Agricultural and Pastoral Show is being held.
