OBITUARY

MR E. T. JAMES PROMINENT TASMAN RESIDENT Very sincere regret was felt when it became known that Mr E. T. James, of “Lismore,” Tasman, had passed away after a brief but severe illness (writes “The Mail’s” Tasman correspondent). Mr Janies was one of the pioneers of the Tasman district, planting his first orchard in 1914. After a lengthy period of service in the Great War, Mr James and his family settled on their orchard and have taken a very full and active part in all that makes for the welfare of the community. Despite frequent periods of ill-health, Mr James maintained throughout the years a bright and cheerful personality, and a wonderful capacity for work. In addition to developing one of the best orchard properties in the district, Mr James found time to devote to fruitgrowers’ affairs and was well known as a delegate to many conferences. His interest in the Presbyterian Church was lifelong and consistent, while among the bowiers_ and in musical circles he was exceedingly popular. His passing removes from the community an outstanding personality and a very" fine citizen. The deepest sympathy of the whole district is extended to the widow and three sons, Messrs A. S. James (Tasman). Keith James, who follows the sea as a career, and is at present in England, and lan James, of Te Awamutu.
