RUSH OF APPLICATIONS <! MEDICAL -MEN SOUGHT MELBOURNE, 7th January. The announcement by the Defence Department that the strength of the Royal Australian Air Force is to be increased has brought a rush of applications from' young men anxious to join the force. Only a comparatively small number can be absorbed, but the department is now considering means of building up an Air Force reserve, as in Great Britain. Tlie Air Board is anxious to strengthen the medical section of the force. A statement issued by the board says: “The Air Force offers to medical men a life both attractive ancl interesting. The rates of pay—£6B7 a year for a married man and £653 a year for a single man—are good, and a new field of scientific interest is opened up by the manifold problems which the circumstances of aviation produce. Visual problems alone have created an entirely new field of research as a result of the speed now attained by aeroplanes.” It is further stated that officers in tlie medical branch of the Air Force must obtain continued and practical experience in flight, and are expected to fly as passengers when called upon to clo
