ROSS AND CROMARTY
MR CHURCHILL’S OFFER REJECTED BY LIBERAL ASSOCIATION (British Official Wireless) (Received 14th January, 11.25 a.m.) RUGBY, 13th January. The Ross and Cromarty Liberal Association has rejected the offer of Mr Randolph Churchill, who was adopted on Saturday as a candidate in the forthcoming by-election by the local Conservative Association, to stand down if the former body would nominate a Liberal National candidate in place of Mr Malcolm MacDonald. Mr MacDonald received a telegram from Mr Stanley Baldwin stating that lie has the Premiers 'whole-hearted support and strongly urging Unionists in the interests of the National Government to support Mr MacDonald as they did Mr MacPherson. MR CHURCHILL HOWLED DOWN (Received 14th January, 1.00 p.m.) LONDON, 13th January. The Ross and Cromarty Conservatives executive telegraphed Mr Baldwin declaring that his support of Mr MacDonald was astonishing and regrettable and challenged the whole democratic structure of the party; and added that it expected Mr Baldwin to loyally support the executive when it resisted headquarters pressure to acicpt a non-Conscrvative. Pipers escorted Mr MacDonald to the meeting where he was cordially received, his supporters including Mr Morrison, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Sir William Martineau, eX chairman of the Conservatives, and Captain Shaw Mackenzie. Another committeeman resigned tonight, The crowd howled down Mr Randolph Churchill when he attacked Mr MacDonald from the hotel balcony.
