BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETINC THE STATISTICAL REPORT The monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital Board held yesterday afternoon was attended by Major R. Dagger (chairman), Mesdumes Watson and Moffatt, A. A. Kenyon, J. Fitz-Gnrald, F. Rage, F. Gibbs, and N. MoConocbie. Mr 11. Tunnieliffo was excused from attendance owing to ill health. Accounts amounting to £2750 5s were authorised for payment. The statistical report for the month of December was presented as follows: In-patients—Remaining from previous month, 39 men, 34 women, 10 children, total 83; admissions during month, 44, 54, 24, 122; total treated, 83, 88, 34, 205; discharged during month. 48, 57. 27, 132; died during month. 3,2, 0,5; remaining at end of month 32, 29, 7, 68.

Nature of cases treated during month. —Medicai, me.i 52, w m en 38, children 14, total 104; surgical, 28, 15, 20, 63 ; maternity, 33; tuberculosis, one mail; other infectious diseases, 1 man; chronic, 1 man, 2 women; totals, 83, 88, 34, 205. Operations. —No. under general anaesthetic, 45; number under local anaesthetic, 10, Out-patients.—No. ot cases, general 68, maternity 44, total 112; number of attf ndances, 90, 50, 140. Massage Depaitment.—No. of cases, in-patients 10, out-patients 11, total 21; number of attendances, 78, 107, 185. X-ray Department.—No. of attendances, in-patients 55 out-patients 14, total 69. Bacteriological Department.—No. of examinations, 257. No. of patients in hospital over two months, 18. The report of the Master of the Alexandra Home (Mr A. Hunter) was received. There arc at present 26 inmates at the Home. The Relieving Officer (Mr 11. Kidson) submitted his report oil the work of the past month. The matter of new cooking facilities at Alexandra Home was referred to the Town Committee to finalise.

COLLINGWOOD MATERNITY HOME Among the business arising from the previous meeting was the question of provision for a new maternity home at Collingwood. Mr Page reported that the committee of people who were interesting themselves in the matter in Collingwood had had two meetings, and had appointed sub-committees to canvass the district. The suggestion that a permit would be granted for the present building in the Future if certain alterations and renovations .were made, did not seenr to meet with ;the approval of many ipepple. Though it was not official he understood that a site had beep given for the purpose at Collingwood. It was pointed out that the Hospital Board could not assist financially in the erection of the building, and Mr Page was asked to confer with the Collingwood County Council with a view to asking the Government to assist in the matter. EXAMINATION OF RELIEF WORKERS A letter was read from the North Canterbury Board suggesting that the Unemployment Board should take over the inspection of classified relief workers on account of the additional work it placed on the hospital doctors. Dr. P. C. Brunette, the Medical Superintendent said that only about 15 bad to be inspected in Nelson, but lie considered it would be a big matter in the centres. It was decided that no action bo taken. CAPITAL EXPENDITURE A letter was received from the Health Department requesting an outline of the proposed capital expenditure in tile next five years The matter was referred to the Town Committee for report at the next meeting.
