SHIPPED TO GERMANY
CONSIGNMENT OF FROZEN MEAT FIRST FOR FIVE YEARS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 3rd Janfiary. “The Times’s” Berlin correspondent says the first consignment of frozen meat to reach Germany for five years arrived on the Hamburg from South America. It amounts to 1200 tons. Further shipments are expected in rapid succession. Probably at least 15,000 tons will be imported before the end of February, and will be distributed to industrial centres where the shortage of cheaper meat is involving hardship on the poorer classes. _■ It is understood it has been provisionally arranged to import 35,000 tons of frozen meat under the German-Ar-gentine and the German-Uruguayan clearing agreement. Negotiations are proceeding with Brazil for additional deliveries. Cold storage chambers are being installed in five German ships. It is understood the price of the frozen meat is 4d per lb c.i.f.
