VANCOUVER TO SYDNEY CONFERENCE IN LONDON SUGGESTED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 17th December. The “Sun-Herald” agency ,understands that a conference is. likely in the New Year between representatives of the British, Australian, and New Zealand Governments in connection with the Vancouver to Sydney shipping service. Communications are passing between the Governments regarding a proposed conference in London. The Liverpool Chamber of Commerce decided to send a resolution to the Government urging the preservation of the Empire shipping service on the Pacific routes.

NEW ZEALAND’S ATTITUDE . INDICATION GIVEN BY . HON. P- FRASER “CANNOT AGREE TO STAND BY IDLY” WELLINGTON, This Day. An indication of the attitude the Government proposes to adopt in dealing with the problem of subsidised shipping was given by the Minister of Marine, the Hon. P. Fraser. “We cannot agree to stand by idly and allow our ships to be driven off the seas,” lie saicl. “We are an island nation, and part of our life is on the sea. • It is the very breath of life in many- of our industries, and it is a source'of employment- to our people. We have to consider how w r e can strengthen our mercantile marine, and the question is (receiving the careful attention of the Government. We want to be fair ,to all concerned, but in our desire to be fair to others ive are not going to be unfair to ourselves and, , opr own country.”
