While working in the foundry late on Tuesday afternoon, Mr W- J. Wallace, one of the principals of the firm of Johns . and Wallace, was badly burned by red hot sand. While taking'the door off the furnace a chain on the plate broke. Mr Wallace was stooping under the furnace to adjust the chain when a quantity of fed hot sand descended on him, badly., burning him on the back of the neck and about the ears; shoulders and hands. He was conveyed home and received medical attention. Though swathed in bandages he is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery. . •• ( Mr Wallace is a well-known. figure in .. the Rugby football world, and was a member of the orignial All Blacks which toured Britain in 1905.
