BULK ELECTRICITY AGREEMENT

NEGOTIATIONS NEARING 1 COMPLIETION FINALITY EXPECTED NEXT WEEK Reporting to last night’s meeting of the City Council on the negotiations between the Council and : the Waimea Power Board for the supply of hulk electricity Councillor S. A. Gibbs, chairman of the Electric Light Committee, said there had been some delay by reason of the confusion of issues as between the Hume Pipe Company, the Waimea Power Board, and the Nelson City Council. Neither the City Council nor the Power Board had in any way been resopnsible for the delay in the completion of the agreement. Actually the fact that the agreement had not been signed would not cause delay in the initiation of the work by the Hume Pipe Company, but it was advisable that it should be signed as soon as possible as tire date of the completion of the undertaking was dependent on the date of the signing of the agreement. It was anticipated that the agreement would be placed before the Council for signing next week. Councillor Gibbs moved, in order to expedite matters, that the Electric Light Conunitte be authorised to complete the agreement, and that all councillors attend for the finalising of the agreement. The motion was seconded by Councillor S. McArthur and carried.
