THE MOTUEKA SEAT
MR HOLYOAKE’S POSITION EMPHATIC DENIAL OF A RUMOUR Interviewed to-day, Mr Iv. J. Holyoake, M.P., for Motueka in reply to a question as to whether there was any substance in the rumour that he was “tired of politics” and does not intend to contest the Motueka seat at the next general election, said: “I wish to give all such rumours an emphatic denial.” Mr Holyoake added: “Jt is true that owing to the depression a tremendous amount of extra work has devolved upon Members of Parliament, but I think I can successfully claim to have met all such claims and demands upon my time, and I feel that my energy has not yet been exhausted in the service of the people of the Motueka electorate. The necessity imposed by emergency legislation, of obtaining an insight into practically every statute convinces me that I am better qualified than ever to continue to represent Motueka, with its diversified industries and varying interests. “The experience and knowledge which I have so acquired will again be offered to the people at the next election, and there should be no misunderstanding on that point.”
