SCIENTIFIC MARVEL

DEVELOPMENT OF TELEVISION (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, 6th June. Judging by modern ideas, the development of television, the latest scientific marvel and toy, has been rather slow. But its progress has been steady all the same, and I am told that, by the time the high-definition transmission station at the Alexandra Palace is ready, the experts concerned are confident that television will give results very nearly as good as those obtained on the cinema screen. _ This suggests wonderful possibilities in home _ film production, more especially as it is said we shall soon have television sets which will be both efficient and reasonably cheap. Obviously it is essential, if the hopes of the television people are to be realised, that it should develop as more than a mere hobbv of the wealthy lew, and become in time a thoroughly popular one. In much less than a decade, probably within five years, television will rank with wireless broadcasting to day, and how powerfully it will strengthen its hold.
