CHRISTCHURCH "SUN” AND “TIMES” LAST ISSUE TO-MORROW [By Telegraph—Press Association] AUCKLAND, This Day. Shareholders of New Zealand Newspapers, Ltd., at an extraordinary meetmo- this morning, unanimously passed a special resolution authorising the directors to complete Hie purchase goodwill, etc., of the business of "Sun ' Newspapers, Ltd., and to contract with the Christchurch "Press” Company, Ltd., for cessation of the publication ot the ‘'Christchurch Times.” The acting-chairman of directors, Mr Edward Anderson, gave particulars (already published) of the terms and conditions agreed upon between the three companies, *md remarked that what had been brought about by agreement would sooner or later have been brought about by pressure of economic circumstances, lie thought shareholders would agree that the company had not been ungenerous in offering £7OOO cash to assist in compensating the "Sun” staff, especially as the. company had to make some similar provision for those members of its own staff for whom work could not immediately bo found. Special reference was made to the valuable work done by Mr C. W. Earle, of Wellington, in negotiations in Christchurch, and a. resolution was passed expressing the thanks and appreciation of shareholders to the directors.

The “Christchurch Times” and the “Sun” will publish for the last time tomorrow.
