IMPRESSIVE TRIBUTE
TO LATE MRS McCOMBS THOUSANDS LINE ROUTE OF FUNERAL (By Telegraph—Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Citizens of all ranks joined in paying a tribute to the memory of Mrs E. R. McCombs, M.P. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. From 11 o clock in the morning the body lay in state in the Council Chambers, ' and from then until‘the coffin left for the Waimain cemetery hundreds of men and women filed through the doors of the building to pay respect, while thousands'lined the route along which the funeral procession passed on its way in the after'noon to the Waimairi cemetery. The Government was represented by the Hon. J. Bitchener, and there were also present the Mayor, Mr D. Sullivan, M.P., and city councillors and members of Parliament of both parties, representatives of trade unions, the Labour Party, local bodies and many other organisations with which Mre McCombs’s work had brought her into contact. Ail impressive trbute was paid by workers cf the city particularly, some 300 members of trade unions heading the funeral procession from the Council Chambers to the boundary of the city. The employees of the Tramway Board, of which Mrs McCombs was a member, formed a guard of honour.
