CONFERENCE AT TIMARU REMITS AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS (By Telegraph—Press Association) TIMARU, This Day. At the annual'pipe bands’ conference, Mr T. Gilchrist, of Dunedin, presided, and delegates were welcomed by the president of the Tiriiaru Pipe Band.. - ! A remit by Dunedin was carried that a winning band be awarded the following medals: Pipe-major and drummajor, gold ‘medals ; the remainder silver medals. Mr McCall moved a remit from Dunedin that a contest be staged for drummers. It was emphasised that pipers and drummers were only part of the unit of a band, and it would be unwise to make the distinction. After some discussion the remit was withdrawn. It was decided that the entry fee for contests should be five guineas without a refund. A remit that selected items -be sent to all bands nine months before a contest was withdrawn. After discussion of halving of points, it was agreed that points should not be halved. The following executive remit was carried: “That a special general meeting be held wherever a Dominion contest is held, and the annual meeting be held where the executive are domiciled.” The following officers were elected:— President, Mr Telfer (Christchurch) ; vice-presidents, South Island, Mr T. Gilchrist (Dunedin), North Island, Mr G. Lauchlan (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Johnson (Christchurch) ; auditor, Mr G. Seay (Christchurch).
