A telegram has been received in town to-day from Longford stating that after much wearing and patient work, gooc: gold has been struck in leaders in the Bulmer Creek claim. We heartily congratulate the shareholders, who for two years and a half have persevered in their search for the precious metal and for the sake of the district we trust that the success which at last promises to attend their operations will lead to the discovery of yet more gold-bearing reefs in a locality where a payable field would prove an immense boon to Nelson. At least fifty years old —a farmer having made his fortune, moved into the city to enjoy it, but his old love citing to him, and he indulged in a small way in the agrarian pursuit. Visiting his friends in the country, and relating his experience in city farming, he said—“l put outside my window a large box, filled it with mould and sowed it with seed. What do you think came up?” “Wheat, barley or oats?” “No, a policeman, who ordered me to remove it.”
