Flandin retorted that it was not the time for doctrinal controversies. “We must return progressively to freedom, which does not mean abolishing protection or cancelling exceptional legislation,” he added. The Chamber voted confidence in M. Flandin "by 423 votes to 118. The Socialists abstained from voting.
