TAHUNANUI TOWN BOARD
BUSINESS AT FORTNIGHTLY MEETING
The fortnightly meeting of the Tahunanui Town Board, held in the Board room of the Town Hall last evening, was attended by Messrs C. H. Chamberlain (chairman), G. Cunningham, M. O’Sullivan, M. Grace, L. Ingham, W. Tiller, T. W. Roberts. A total of £B7 2s 4d in accounts was passed for payment. The Board granted £ls to the Fire Brigade for an insurance cover on the brigadesmen. The foreman, Mr FT. Ellis, reported that work had been commenced in draining the water from Muratai street west so that the depressions could be filled in. Levels had been taken, and it had been ascertained that half an inch fall to the chain could be obtained from the junction of Rawhiti and Muratai streets to approximately halfway to Green street, the remainder having a fall towards Green street. A large quantity of soil had been deposited in the ditch along the Main road. This soil had been washed down from ploughed paddocks oil the hillside by heavy rains. The clearing’ of this ditch was now being attended to.
The report was received. Subdivision plans submitted by Mr C. F. Hoqlker were approved. Mr Tiller reported for the Works Committee that an inspection had been made of the work on the Rocks road cliffs. After rain mud washed off the cliff made the road very greasy and a number of mishaps had occurred on Saturday. - Instructions had been given to the foreman to clean up the road when it rained. A number of other matters were also dealt with by Mr Tiller.
It was. decided to use Rocks road spoil for the footpath on Bisley Avenue. This work is to be proceeded with at once. It was resolved that the filling in oi the water-tables and the bringing of the concrete sumps on Rocks road up to the correct level be proceeded with immediately. It was decided to write to the Unemployment Board pointing out that the Town Board could not afford to employ a foreman unless sufficient unemployed are available under the No. 5 scheme. Th 0 chairman, remarked that the men employed on removing spoil from the cliffs had done excellent work, and ho was pleased with the amount of spoil that had been shifted. He was satisfied that the danger to life had been removed.
