Allison (U.S.A.) defeated Gilbert Hunt 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Stoefen (U.S.A.) defeated James Farrin, junr., 6-1, 6-1, 61. Sutter defeated Elmer Griffin 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. Most of the stars got byes. ENGLISH WOMEN’S SUCCESS NEW YORK, Ist September. In the Eastern grass court champion ships at Rye in the doubles tennis final, Misses Stammers and James , (England) defeated Miss Dorothy Andrus (Stamford, Connecticut) and Miss Elizabeth Ryan (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-3. MISS NUTHALL DEFEATED NEW YORK. 31st! August. 11l the women’s singles Miss James (England) eliminated Miss Nuthall (England) 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. MEN’S SINGLES AMERICAN* PLAYERS DOMINATING NEW YORK, 31st August. In the semifinals of the men’s singles at Rye Lott (U.S.A.) defeated Shields (U.S.A.) 4-6, 6-3, 8-6. Parker (U.S.A.) defeated Mako (Japan) 6-1, 6-4. ENGLISH PLAYERS COMPETE FOR FINAL MISS STAMMERS’ TRIUMPHS NEW YORK, Ist September. In. the final of the women’s singles at Rye, Miss Stammers (England) defeated Miss James (England) 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. POLAND ELIMINATES GREECE FOR DAVIS CUP WARSAW, Ist August. In the Davis Cup eliminating rounds Poland eliminated Greece by three matches to nil.
