STOCKS PRACTICALLY CLEARED
The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated 18th August, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand : Apples: Stocks practically cleared. Current prices are: Dougherty, 10s to 13s; Sturmer, 8s 6d to 10s 6d. Season just closed. Have experienced usual middle season glut which has adversely aft'ecced reason’s average. TALLOW AND HEMP The Department of Agriculture lias received tlie following cablegram, dated 18th August, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow: Auctions will be held on 22nd August. Little better spot demand with, prices showing a, hardening tendency. Hemp: -Manila: Market remains quiet but steady with values about unchanged. Output Ist January to Ist August 800,000 bales against 620,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in the United Kingdom on Ist August 28,204 bales against 11,764 at the same time last year. Stocks in Manila on Ist August, 148,000 bales against 118,000 at the same time last year. Sisal: Market steady. Sellers quote Angust-October shipment at £l4 ss. New Zealand: Market dull with no first hand sales reported. Stocks in London on Ist August, 8 tons against 111 tons for the previous year. FROZEN MEAT The lamb market in London is steady, with prices unchanged, according to the weekly cable received by the New Zealand Meat Board. Consumption is increasing with cooler weather. In the mutton market wethers are steady and ewes are firmer, owing to shoi’t spot stocks. The beef market is meeting with slightly better demand, and prices are a little higher. New Zealand porker pigs are firmer owing to short spot stocks, aiid the market- for baconers is steady and unchanged. • The approximate average wholesale prices realised during the v r eek for representative parcels, in the Smithfield market and London stores, with those
