COMMUNISTIC ACTIVITIES

HOLLYWOOD IMPLICATED FOUR PICTURE PLAYERS NAMED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 18th August. A message from Sacramento states that prosecuting officials investigating alleged Communistic activities in Hollywood name four motion picture players as contributors to that cause—Lupe Velez, Dolores Del Rio, Ramon Navarro, and James Cagney. Johnny Weismuller declared: “Lupe doesn’t even know the meaning of the word.” Cagney denied the statements categorically, while the others have not commented. Friends declared that over a year ago Cagney contributed to the relief of striking agricultural workers in which Communist leaders were involved, which probably resulted in linking his name with the movement.
