GAY SCENES AT VELMA HALL PLUNKET SOCIETY’S ANNUAL PARTY

80-Peeps and Indians played happily with Gipsies and Fairies at the children’s party given by the Plqnket Society in the Velma Hall on Saturday afternoon. Fairy Tale Princesses met the Princes in the Tower, and the Nursery Rhyme children all came to life and joined in the fun. Don Bradman came along too, and Jean Batten flew in in time for the Grand March. Members of Toe H with big trumpets ran in among the crowd and led the revels. , During the aiternoon, the pupils oi Miss Thelma Preece contributed several excellent items: 1. Irish Jig by Joy Griggs. This was given with great enthusiasm by the small colleen. 2. Tap duo by Shirley and Valerie Lock, two tiny tots in pink and black routine frocks. 3. Gipsy dance by Lorna Styles was very gay 'and bright. 4. Russian Gopak by Edna Greenan a difficult dance very cleverly done. 5. Skipping dance by Sylvia Anderson was an unusual item, which required a very definite sense of rhythm. _ The members of the committee responsible for the success of the afternoon were: Mesdames Lock. Bradshaw, C. R. Fell, Lucas, M. Rout, Earle, Rigg, Halley, Parker, Harley, Pownall, Stephenson , Hudson, Palmer, and Misses Atkinson, Nevin and Ledger. Mrs W. W, Squires and Mrs Ogle Moore acted as judges. The costumes were so many and varied that they had some difficulty in reaching a decision. The prize list was as follows: — Original 'Girl: June Muir (Rope). Original Boy: Jim Cromie and Don Cressy (British Guards). Comical Girl: Clare Bensemann (Grandma). . Comical Boy: John Farmer (Fireman). Most Artistic Girl: Joycelyn Shale (Madame Pompadour). Special Pair : Don Biddell and Carol Slinn (Drummer Boy and Girl). Special Tiny Tot Boy: Roddy Dyce (Drum Major). Special Tiny Tot Girl (Margaret Cannington (Red" Riding Hood). Special Tiny Girl: Barbara Du Flou (Mary, Mary). 1 The judges also gave special mention to the Rea Poppy, Jean Batten, Cupid and the Gumnut Baby.
