President Roosevelt indicated his plans were to be strengthened rather than slackened. He made it clear that if ncessary lie would bo prepared to go to an indefinite length in extending governmental control over business for the common good. “The old unregulated competitive law of tooth and claw is gone for ever.” MONETARY POLICY EXTENSION TO SILVER WASHINGTON, 9th August. Commenting on the extension of Government monetary policy to silver, Senator Thomas says it is a declaration that there is not enough gold in the world to satisfy the demand. It is a return to silver, . EFFECT ON AMERICAN EXCHANGE LONDON. 10th August. Owing to President Roosevelt’s silver policy tile American exchange dropped. This 'morning silver shares showed only small improvements. Transatlantic industrials rose sharply. ACTIVITY IN LONDON LONDON. 10th August. _ Although President Roosevelt’s decision concerning silver was not known in London until after the usual business ot the house, anticipations caused activity, and the price advanced id to 21 7-16 d an ounce, the highest price since November, 1931.
