N.Z. GOLF COUNCIL
CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAMME
Tho monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held on Monday, when there were present: Sir Alexander Roberts (chairman), Messrs W. E. A. Gill, J. H. Drake, A. R. Sclanders, and G. 0. Sutton (secretary) Championship Programme. —Certain alterations in the national championship programme, which had been approved of by the programme- subcommittee, were adopted by the council as follows: In the open championship conditions were altered so as to include any professional who,, though not a member of a recognised professional golfers’ association, is a member of one of the affiliated clubs. The condition regarding the drawing of competitors in tho open championship will now read as follows: “In event No.. 1 professionals will be drawn with amateurs in such manner, having regard to the respective skill of tho various players, as the committee may decided. All starting times will be balloted for.”
As the result of an inquiry from a New Zealander at present in London a cablegram was sent recently to him indicating that the association would welcome a visit by a British amateur golf team, and would arrange matches and asking for cabled advice as to the number of players and the approximate dates of their arrival in and departure from New Zealand. It was resolved to reinstate to amateur status, in so far as it applies to New Zealand, Mr J. B. Wallace. A letter was received from the English Golf Union enclosing specimens of life scores register in use- in England, which apparently is only for the purpose of keeping at headquarters a record of performances of Category A players, that is, 3 handicap or under. it was reported that the two professionals on tour are still receiving bookings, and as the season is drawing to a close clubs which still require their services are asked to make early re-
quests. \ The secretary reported that a letter had been sent to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews inquiring as to whether it- is really their intention that a club may not bo grounded upon grass in any hazard other than a bunker.
A supply of programmes and entry forms was received for a returned soldiers’ Centenary golf tournament in Melbounre in November. It was resolved to. circulate .these.
