STOKE

THE MEN ENTERTAIN This week the men of St. Barnabas Church presented a unique entertainment in the Sunday School in aid of | the Church funds, such as delighted the ; hearts of the many who were present. | The Rev. Mr Bedwell introduced the performers and at the close cordially thanked all for the support they had given. The “Zither” Band opened the Eroceedings and was followed by the umour of Mr H. Chisnall. After some excellent community singing a sketch j “The Petitions Committee,” was presented and caused much laughter. Mr

S. Morris sang some original verses which had a moral in reference to the importance of the local venture in building a vicarage. Mr T. C. Scott gave a chalk talk, in which figured more than one celebrity and he gained much applause. Mr Plum delighted everyone with his singing of the “Adjutant,” and followed with an equally pleasing recall number. A weight guessing competition of precious metal occupied the attention for a time, the winner, Miss Hay, being suitably rewarded. A further sketch, “The Ragged School," caused great fun with fortunately no damage to property. Mr Grant recited something of real interest and all were forced to detect the new vicarage as something very much in his mind. The “Zither” Band concluded the programme and a bounteous supper served by the men gave a final touch of good cheer. The National Anthem brought the evening to a close and all felt that the effort of the men had been a great success.
