BOMBAY STRIKE
ARREST OF LEADERS NO CHANGE IN SITUATION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy right) (Received Ist- Mav, 9.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 30th April. Fourteen Bombay strike leaders were arrested on charges of incitement to violence. Although the general situation is the same there is more confidence among loyal workers, who are escorted to and from the gates in motor lorries by police guards.
JUTE PRESS COLLAPSES MANY COOLIES BURIED (Received Ist Mav. 9.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA, 30th May. About fifty or sixty coolies were buried when a hanuman jute press at Howrah collapsed. Police and others are working feverishly to remove the debris, but it will be days before the death roll is known. There was a fire in the building a few days ago, and coolies were engaged in salvaging the damaged jute bales when the building collapsed during strong winds..without the slightest warning. So far ten bodies have been recovered.
