SMITH FAMILY CLOTHES DRIVE
FOR RELIEF OF DISTRESS At a meeting of the executive of the Nelson Smith Family a letter was received from the Local Unemployment Committee asking that a Clothes Drive be undertaken again this year early n May. Recognising the need for assisting the unemployed relief workers’ farm, lies and all cases of distress it was decided unanimously to accede to the request and to organise a drive for Saturday, 12th May, 0 n the lines of tile very successful drives held in the two previous years. It is hoped to have again the kind co-operation iof those who provided cars on the last occasion also that of the- 'Girls Guides, Scouts and members of the Toe II who assisted so well in the collection of parcels. Full particulars will be advertised later, bur. in the meantime citizens are urged to get together all clothing, boots, and shoes etc., that can be spared, knowing that the need for assistance is even greater than formerly.
The continued lack of employment other than on relief works, is forcing even those who had put a little on o ne side to be more than ever dependent on the assistance of those who are more fortunately situated and in employment; while tho plight- of those who have had no permanent work since the depression commenced is becoming deplorable. Citizens are again urged to “help the Smith Family help others.”
