SILVER ADVOCATES
REMONETISATION PLAN MANDA TO R V I 7EGISL ATIO X REFUSED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) WASHINGTON, 21st April. President Roosevelt received a delegation of congressional silver advocates, but stated flatly that he would not accept legislation to make the remonetisation of silver mandatory. He reiterated that thy problem must lie settled on some soil of international basis, and offered a compromise by accepting the Dies Silver Kami Relief bill to accept foreign silver for American farm produce, and a iso /accept permissive legislation for them to remonetise it if they see fit. There is some grumbling among silver men, but there is little likelihood that they will he able to force radical legislation over the President's head, at least during the present session.
