THREE CHINESE FINED COMMENTS BY MAGISTRATE , (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 21st April. Three detectives raided an op'ium den in Nelson street last night and found a trap door barring the entrance to the upper storey. One Chinese escaped by a window, hut three were arrested" and to-day were fined £25 each. The magistrate, Mr Wilson, remarked: “These opium smokers cannot keep away from the drug and I think there should he some place where they could be placed for, say, twelve months to get- the effect of the drug out of their system. Their relatives usually pay their fines if they go to gaol and the country has to keep them.”
