In the House of Commons the Minister of Labour, Sir Henry Betterton, stated that the Government had for some time been enquiring into the special problem presented by derelict industrial areas, and had decided betore proceeding further to have inquiries made* in typical places within the districts of Durham, South Wales, Cumberland and Scotland The investigation would begin at once.
