METHOD OF CONTRIBUTION CRITICISM BY MAGISTRATE (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The method of contribution by which the single men’s home in Fitzgerald avenue is maintained was severely criticised by tiio magistrate, Mr Mosley, this morning, when dealing with Alex Scott. Collie on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond in that he was guilty of collecting money by falsely representing he was acting on behalf of the single men’s home. The charge was dismissed under the Offenders Probation
Act. Mr Mosley added: "It is a pity o see the good-natured British public aken down in this way. If the single lien's home wauls to deserve the sym-
pathy of the public they will have to get a different system from the present one, which is open to fraud. II is quite evident to nip. that the accused was guilty of fraud in dealing with collection 'coupons without, authority.” Collie in evidence said he had been acting-manager of the home for a period and I here was a considerable sum owing to him. He had been collecting it by the use of coupons.
