SUNDAY TENNIS

ON BOROUGH RESERVES CONTROVERSY IN MT. EDEN (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. A controversy has arisen in Mt. Eden borough because of the council’s decision to allow Sunday play by a tennis club whose courts are on borough reserves. A deputation last night sought to persuade the council to reconsider its decision. During the subsequent discussion by the council one councillor contended that the question had been settled by the decision of a Chief Justice, the late Sir Robert Stout, who ruled invalid tlie Wellington City Council’s bylaw made in 1917 prohibiting Sunday golf on tlie Town Belt : reserve. The council decided to obtain a report from a solicitor on this aspect.
