ROAD TRAFFIC BILL

EXPERIMENTS IN LONDON SYSTEM OF SAFETY ZONES (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 7th April. A system of safety zones for pedestrians as a means of preventing street accidents will be tested in London. Dans for the institution of special crossings in the most congested areas in the °West End have been issued by the Minister of Transport, Mr 0. Stanley. Under the Road Traffic Bill, which will be debated in the House of Commons on Tuesday, the Minister is taking powers to require the institution of special crossings in the country generally, and to make regulations providing for the imposition of penalties on pedestr/.ns who walk dangerously.

The plans put forward are experimental, and local authorities in London have been invited to collaborate with the Minister in testing them.
