Tn the past 15 years no fewer than 2.175,000 new houses have been creeled in England, and of Ibis minilier nearly 1,900,(100 in the last (en years. 00 per cent, of them by private enterprise. Though the population of Britain has increased by only 2,000,000 since the war. the new housing accommodation provided is sufficient for three times that number. The greatest activity has taken place in the suburbs of lamdon, where nearly 500,000 new homes have been built in a decade. This devlopmcnt is reflected in official returns of building societies, which show that since 1022 the amount advanced on mortgages has substantially increased each year in Hie last seven years. The annual total has nearly doubled, and it is predicted Hint the 1033 figures will reach £100.000.000 nearlv £10.000,000 above the record total of 1931.
