RANZAU SCHOOL CONCERT

ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT The annual children’s concert was held at the Ranzau school, when a very clever and entertaining programme was provided by the piesent ana past pupils of the school. The building was taxed to the limit for accommodation. However tiie slight discomfort was more than offset by the excellent rendering of the many items. The concert opened with items by the school toy band: (a) ' ‘British Grenadiers” ; (b) “Men of Harlech ; (c) “Jingle Belts”; (d) “Cuckoo”; (e) “The Huntsman’s Chorus.” Songs by the school choir were: (a) Noel y (b) “The Happy Farmer” ; (c) “The Harp that Once"; (d) “Cuckoo”; (e) “The Nightingale”; (fj “Dabbling in the Dew”; (g) “Three Huntsmen.” An infants play, “Rumpelstiltskin” was as much enjoyed by the audience as by the diminutive actors. Characters were: The Miller, David Eden; miller’s daughter, Nessie Butters; king, Charlie Schroder; herald, Bevan Smith; nurse, Marjoirie Stobie; messenger, Ted Eden; attendants, Nancy Satherley, Shirley Mirfin, Lucy Butters, Stanley Savage; Rumpelstiltskin, John Smith. Infants songs were “Little Miss Toddleskins and “We are a Happy Band of Children.” Part-song “Dip Boys Dip the Oar” by Harold Jessops and choir; “Two Little Girls in Blue” by Shirley Mirfin; duet, “Two Roses” Olive Mitchell and jean Bint; dance, The Heel Row,” Jean Brint, Jean Borck, Vena. Russ. Olive Mitchell; duet, “Melody of Life” Vena Russ and Jean Borck; dance and song, “Rig-a-Jig,” Winnith Thomas and Choral Russ; recitation, ‘ Little Urphant Annie,” Pixie Smith; song, boys “Old Zip Coon”; recitation, “If” Harold Jessop •. mimes, “Nursery Rhymes, Galt pupils; sketch, “Tom Sawyer, >f characters, ‘"Toni” Faddy Sjnitb/ Ben. Rex Bint, “Jim” Ivan Berkett. A well presented play, “The Dream Lady” by the senior girls was much appreciated and concluded the programme. were: King, Jean Bint; Queen, Olive Mitchell; Princess Fiamelta, Jean Borck; Prince of Goldacres, Ethel Eden; the Dream Lady, Vena Russ; children of the King, Astorre, Pixie Smith, and Annolette, Choral Russ; attendants, Nanine, Edna Joss, and Denise Winnith Thomas; Page, Della Patterson: heralds, Jean. Satherley, Dulcir Schroder. A presentation was made to Miss Moore the infants teacher, who is leaving f ile school this term and transferring to Takaka School next year. The evening concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the children and teachers for their very creditable work in producing a most enjoyable entertainment. “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anlliem then closed a pleasant evening. j
