BREAKING-UP CEREMONY CERTiriCATES PR T. SENTEI > BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT On Tuesday morning ilic Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C.. chair man of the Nelson Education Board accompanied by the secretary, Mr 11. J. Thornton, visited tlm Central School and presented the certificates won during the year. In introducing tiic visitors, the headmaster, Mr McCluno said that fortunately there were no prizes to present. He did not believe in a system of teaching which necessitated the giving of prizes to secure results. Mrs li. Jlounscll, had as in the past, forwarded two gifts to be given to the host hoy and girl in spoils. These were circled hv tile children themselves and their judgment showed a good sense of responsibility.

Mr H. Wood, chairman of ilio Central School Committee and a member oi the Education Board, said that lie trusted that the children in Form II would carry on their education to College and University and live unselfish lives. Mr IT. J. Thornton said it gave them much pleasure to he present, lie congratulated the children on their general clean and healthy appearance, and wished everyone the compliments of the season.

The Hon. W. 11. Mclntyre, who was received with loud applause, sail that he was very glad to lie present at the function that morning. The Proficiency results were excellent and spoke volumes for the system and methods of teaching in vogue at the Central. He said the Board was glad to note and encourage experiments in teaching practice especially where they were •accompanied by such fine results. Mr -McIntyre dwelt upon the educational value of sport in training and disciplining the mind and body o! the child. He. handed Mrs llounseH’s gifts to Kay Connolly and June Hawke.
