MISHAPS TO WHALING SHIPS
SEVEN THIS SEASON VESSEL LOST WITH ALL HANDS /United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 21st December, 12.30 p.m.) CAPETOWN, 20th December. An oil transport towing a disabled whale catcher, which arrived from the Antarctic picked up a message yesterday that the British factory ship Southern Princess had seriously damaged her rudder in a heavy gale and was seeking shelter in the icepack. This is the seventh casualty during the present season. The captain of the transport participated in the search for another vessel the Berea, and found a whale with a heavy chain attached to the tail, it was concluded when the Berea overran the whale in order to bring it tail first, she was caught by a huge wave and capsized, giving the crew no chance.
