WIN FOR KIWI REWA AND HUIA DRAW RESULTS AT A GLANCE Senior (Charity Cup Final). Kiwi 4, Wakatu 1. Junior Waimai 1, Y.M.C.A. 1. Wakatu 2, Stoke 2. Ladies Rewa 2, Iluia 2. Saturday’s hockey games at the Botanical Reserve attracted a fairly large attendance, keen interest being shown in both ladies’ and men’s matches. In the former case both the Cressey Cup and tire championship depended on tlie result. In the latter the Charity Cup was at stake. Kiwi won decisively. The position is still undecided in tlie ladies’ competition as a result of the drawn game. In the junior grade the semi-final still remains to be decided. Waimai and Y.M.C.A., who drew previously, again drew, one all. KIWI WIN CHARITY CUP It was expected that Kiwi and Wakatu would again provide a good, even struggle, but Kiwi rattled on two goals in the first few minutes and later increased that total to four. Wakatu played much below their usual form and seemed to bo put off their stride by Kiwi’s bustling tactics. Towards the end of the game Wakatu showed improved form and, pressing Kiwi harder, scored their only goal. The teams were : Wakatu: Mitchell; Marshall, Duncan; Chapman, Best, Masters; Thomas, H. Russell, Nightingale, G. Russell, and Gaskell. Kiwi: Holland ; Jennings, N. Whitwell; Kenning, Toms, Coker; Paterson, Mayer, Whitwell, Webster and Burns. Wakatu went away from the bully, but a fast Kiwi rush initiated by Whitwell had the defenders bustled, but a penalty temporarily relieved. Another similar attack saw Kiwi shoot, and though the goalie stopped it he did not clear and Whitwell netted. Kiwi 1, Wakatu 0.

On resumption Kiwi continued their fast, open tactics, the defenders making poor attempts to stem the rush and Webster netted. Kiwi 2, Wakatu 0. Kiwi were thus two goals up within a : few minutes, having had all the best of the play. Whitwell nearly added to the total with a good shot from a penalty corner. From a free hit Nightingale made a good dasli j into the circle. Kiwi were getting through the halves with speedy passing, and Mitchell was kept busy in goal, making some good saves. Kiwi cleared from a penalty corner given to Wakatu. Whitwell gave “sticks” in a good position in front of tlie goal, when a score looked imminent. Clever stick work among the Kiwi forwards made them dangerous in the circle, Whitwell being right on his game. Mayer after being j treated for a head injury was able to ! resume. The Wakatu defence had a keen battle to keep Kiwi out in a melee in the goalmouth. The Kiwi backs defended solidly in Wakatu attacks. The play was very willing at times, over forceful tactics being employed. Wakatu penetrated in the • second, spell, Russell putting in a shot which the goalie neatly glanced out.’of j.the goal with his hoot. Whitwell cleverly pushed through in the circle, passing to Paterson and a difficult situation was relieved by a well-timed clearance by j Mitchell. Another good shot was well stopped and the goalie cleared away with a free hit. Best moved into the forwards and the Wakatu line gained the circle, where slowness lost them the 1 chance. Kiwi were given a corner lnt and a fine shot by Whitwell found the • net. Kiwi 3, Wakatu 0. \ Playing off again Best’s centre was missed by Nightingale; Whitwell also ■ overran a centre from Burns. A corner | hit to Kiwi went right through, but i Kenning returned the ball to Paterson, who snapped in a high shot and scored a good goal. Kiwi 4, Wakatu 0. j Paterson made a good run right I through but mulled his' shot. A hard hit up by a fullback put Thomas up and the inside forwards tried hard for. a goal, meeting keen defence. Gaskell received after a struggle and netted their first goal. Wakatu 1, Kiwi 4. Wakatu were holding Kiwi better now and saw more of the circle, but they had rallied too late. Messrs Neale and Lipscombe were the referees. REWA AND HUIA DRAW Interesting play was seen in the first' spell of the ladies’ game when all the scoring was done. A hard struggle, was kept up in the second half, but neither side could finish off. Rewa played one short. The teams were as follows : j Rewa: F. Page; M. Cederman; B. Gibson, E. Page, M. Weldon; M. Howard, Mrs Webb, 11. Page, L. Howard and 11. Horncastle. j

Huia: N. Stuart; B. Inwood, D. McGrath; L. Gill, V. Muirson, M. Lynch; F. Anderson, C. Redshaw, M. Winter, M. Grey and L. Barnett. Rewa attacked from the bully and the Huia goalkeeper failed badly when ! trying to kick clear, but the ball went, outside. Rewa opened the scoring when j H. Page netted as a reward for follow- j ing in. Rewa 1, Huia 0. Huia then took the upper hand and after some nice combined work M. Win- i ter scored. Huia 1, Rewa 1. A bright dash by H. Ilorncastle en- ' livened the play, but finished in the ball going over the back line. Huia were throwing the ball about well and had Rewa anxious when a hit up was not fielded by the Rewa fullback, but though Huia followed up fast, E. Page managed to clear for the defenders. . Rewa attacked from the 25 and just j missed with a shot, but returned soon j after and li. Page scored. Rewa 2, i Huia 1. i

As before, Huia were not long i i equalising, going away in a good rusn and though the goalie made one good save a second attempt was successful, M. Winter scoring. Huia 2, Rewa 2. It was now Rewa’s turn to press, and Huia had a warm time defending corner hits. A defending back when clearing centred dangerously in the circle. Defence was turned into attack when the Huia halves got the ball past the Rewa halves and the Iluia forwards went away in a fast attack. The game was held up for an injured player and half-time sounded. The second spell saw Huia pressing Rewa warmly, being three times sent back for getting offside, forgetting that Rewa were one short in the backs, ihe Rewa forwards were prominent in several rushes, but the Huia halves were solid. 11. Page with hit and run tactics reached the circle, but B. Inwiod ran back and saved. A keen struggle m the circle followed. Rewa gained a penalty corner, but infringed, allowing Huia to take play to the other end, where two shots dribbled past the goal. 11. Ilorncastle beat the halves and made a good run, but thereafter Huia did

most of the attacking, but could not score. Messrs Hunter and Amos were the referees.
