DAYS WITHOUT PAY

[To the Editor] Sir, —Carping criticism and personalities seem to be the stock-in-trade of one of many ratepayers. Perhaps he was a bit peeved at not getting the support of the many so had to dig up something nasty. What have my qualifications as a tradesman got to do with the relief workers’ earnings. What I said in my letters was: If as one of many ratepayers says, the relief worker gets 10s a day his wages will be £ll per month. If lie had said they get 10s per day on the days they arc allowed to work 1 would have said they get about 6s per day or .£6 10s per month. The relief workers has to eat and pay rent 7 days a week and 4 weeks per month. The working days for all others are 51 per week and 4 weeks per month. Thanking you.—l a in, etc., TRADESMAN.
