FRENCH ARMY

OPERATIONS IN MOROCCO (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 16th August. Mr Ward Price, correspondent with the French army in Morocco, declares that the French were hindered by Berber sharpshooters concealed in mountain caves, the storming of which resulted in five days’ continuous fighting. The French have now reached steep hills commanding the lower slopes of Mount Badou, the formidable and last stronghold of the Berbers.

Aeroplanes report the concentration of Berbers around the wells. Each tribe fights desperately under the blazing sun to defend its own little tract of barren country and scrubby herds. Some 3500 Berbers have surrendered. The men are fierce and the women swathv, handsome and tatooed. They have been placed in a concentration camp.
