THIRD SALARY CUT

AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD (By Telegraph—Press Association; AUCKLAND, 7th March. Further reductions in the salaries of its stall to operate from Ist April were agreed to bv the Auckland Harbour Board. This is the third salary reduction made by the board since June, 1931. On the recommendation of an economy committee, it was decided in the case of salaries exceeding £250 a year and less than £450 a year that a reduction of 5 per cent lie made, hut that salaries should not he reduced below £250. Salaries in excess of £450 are to be reduced hv 74 per cent., but such salaries are not to he reduced below the higher wage of the lower grade. The economy committee is to have power to modify the amount of the reduction in cases where a reduction will operate unequally or unfairly. The reductions made in June, 1931, were 10 per cent on salaries of £250 or over, and 5 per cent, on salaries under £250 a year. Later further cuts were authorised as follows: —3f per cent, off salaries from £lOl to £350; 5 per cent of! salaries from £351 to £SOO, 04 per cent off salaries from £5Ol to £1000; and 10 per cent oil salaries over £IOOO.
