HEAVY EARTHQUAKE

RECORDED AT DOMINION OBSERVATORY

WELLINGTON, This Day. A very heavy earthquake was recorded at the Dominion Observatory at 8.28 yesterday morning. The centre of the disturbance is estimated at about 1000 miles from Wellington, apparently between Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. Very heavy shocks were recorded for the first twenty minutes, and oscillations continued for one and a half hours.
