AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE ADDITIONS TO MEMBERSHIP The ordinary monthly committee meeting of the Nelson Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held on Saturday evening, was attended by Mr W. Martin (president), Messrs F. Lusty, G. W. Best, A. E. Max, J. G. Ingram, R. S. Haycock, F. C. Page, IV. D. Dron, \V. H. May, E. W. Win, C. R. Sutton, E. H. Harkness, D. S Max, C. 11. Ching, J. Biggar, Geo. Manson, H. F. Palmer, J H. Jordan, M. Rogers and W. Hill. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. L. Mead, A. N. Wilkinson, E. Smallbone, R. H. Coleman, N. L. Kerr, A. Gibbs and A. Thomson.
New members were elected as follows: Messrs N. Kearns (Brightwater), Dr. Gloss (Wakefield), J. Palatchie (Wakefield), J. McKenzie (Richmond), Clias. Best (Upper Moutere), R. Parkes (Wakefield). Tho president briefly welcomed back Mr Don Max who recently returned from Australia with the All Blacks. Mr Max in returning thanks said that he would advise farmers to make a visit to Australia which would be an eye-opener to them.
The offer of Mr Wells of two special prizes for draught foal and yearling was accepted with thanks. It was resolved that Mr Jas. Wyllie be thanked for his donation of a cup for the champion pig. Messrs C. R. Sutton and J. Biggar were thanked for their offer of miniature cups to be donated to the winners of the Canterbury Farmers’ Cun and Mr N. P. Adams’s Cup. The Richmond Borough Council intimated that a reduction of 25 per cent, in the Association’s rates for the ensuing year would be granted. It was resolved that the Council be thanked for the reduction. „ _ The Jersey Cattle Breeders’ .Association wrote asking for the use of the showgrounds for a pedigree Jersey cattle sale to be.held early in October. The request was granted. A request was received that a class for maiden hacks be added to _ the schedule. It was resolved that this be done. '
Another request that classes for marquetry work, and erne basket work be included in the industrial class was agreed to. Airs T. Dee and Miss Mabel Dee are to be thanked for their offer of special prizes for class for shopping bag worked in wool by novices which is to be included in the schedule. It was resolved that entries in the 1 school work class except cookery exhibits he brought to tho ground two days before the Show It Was decided that the Meat Producers’ Board be asked for infprmation re the export lamb competition to he held towards the end of the year. The following committee was appointed to deal with the matter: The President and Messrs J. Manson, A. Thomson, C. R. Sutton, W. D. Dron, and the manager of the Freezing Works. Mr H. Schroder waited on the council regarding the canvass for subscriptions, and as a result the following new members were- elected: A .D. Wells (Appleby), T. C. Webby, M. M. Giblin, J. W. McDonald, T. C. Bird. G. W. Wilkes, G. Scoltock, and Les. Wells (Richmond), H. C. Cottrell (Appleby), Commercial Bank of Australia (Nelson), A. K. Baxter (Nelson), H. Bourne-Wehh (Nelson), H J. Johnston (Hope), C. A. Sutton, Best Bros., C. Croucher and A. J.-Mc-Murrav (Richmond), G. P. Russell (Nelson), Reuben Bird, Tracey Stratford (Richmond), G. P. Kellor (Appleby), E Vogtherr (Richmond), C. O’Connell (Applehv), C. H. Knight, M. H. King and Arthur Hunter (Richmond). It was resolved that Mr Schroder be heartily thanked for his efforts on behalf of the Association.
