SUNSHINE AND RAIN The first part of last, month was fine, only ,46in. of rain falling up lj»lhe 16th. On the 17th, however, a heavy downpour resulted in 1.22 in. being recorded during the 24 hours, and since then the days were more or less showery. The total rainfall for the month was 2.93 in against 2.75 in for the corresponding month of last year. For the first six months of the year the precipitation was 18.73 in, compared with 13.02 in for the first half of 1931. During the latter part of the month a good deal of snow fell in the high country, while on one occasion it came down as low as the Wakapuaka hills. Severe frosts were experienced on the 89th and. 30th, Bdeg. and 7deg. respectively being recorded.

The total hours of bright sunshine recorded at the Cawtliron Meteorological Station during June was 183 hrs 45min, against 160 hrs lOmin for June of last yea r.
