GOVERNMENT TOURIST BUREAU

NELSON BRANCH CLOSED RETIREMENT OF MISS TURTON The Nelson branch of the Government Tourist Bureau closed as from yesterday. It will he remembered that a year or so ago the Government decided to close down the branch as an economy measure, but owing to strong local representation on the matter the decision was reversed. However, word was received recently that the branch was to be definitely closed; and a “To Let”'sign in the office window to-day indicates that the decision had been given effect to It is understood that a local business firm has been appointed booking agents for the Department. Miss Turton, who has been in charge of the office since l it was opened in August. 1926, has retired on superannuation and will continue to reside in Nelson. Miss Turton has been a hardworking, conscientious official, and her courteous treatment of the public at all times has earned her the esteem of a large circle of people throughout the Dominion.
