RELIEF OF DISTRESS

TO-MORROW’S APPEAL HELP “SMITH FAMILY” HELP OTHERS To help relieve some of the distress in Nelson the Smith Family will be making an appeal to all citizens to-morrow for one shilling contributions. It is recognised that in tlieso days huge sums cannot be expected, so the subscription is fixed low so that all may help. Hard as times may be for those in employment, it needs no imagination lv realise how infinitely worse it must be for those out of work. The Smith Family i'eel sure that everyone who can will respond to the appeal to-morrow, and thereby bring a little sunshine into the lives of others less fortunately situated. Oue-lmlf the proceeds of to-morrow's appeal will bo used for relieving the above cases, and the other half will go to the UnemplQyment Relief Committee ft. provide extra work and rations to the more needy cases among the registered relijf workers. The street collection to-morrow will be in the hands of the Poppy Day Ladies’ Committee and helpers; while the primary school teachers have organised the house to house canvass. Badges will bo sold at Is each. The Smith Family acknowledge with thanks the support of the public during the past two months, and feels sure that in view of the urgent need for further resistance in the relief of distress among all classes of the community that tomorrow’s appeal will be well supported.
